About Lincoln
Transportation
Eppley Airfield (OMA) in Omaha is the primary airport serving Nebraska. It is about one hour away from Lincoln by car. Please note: There is not useful mass transportation between Omaha and Lincoln.
The Lincoln Airport (LNK) is served by United Airlines and is closer to our venue, but has fewer flight options.
Hotels in downtown Lincoln
- Hilton Garden Inn – Downtown/Haymarket
- Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel
- Holiday Inn Express & Suites Lincoln Downtown
Attractions
- Nebraska Capitol – We have been to a lot of state capitol buildings and this is the best.
- International Quilt Museum – The world's largest publicly held quilt collection. Fun fact: John's aunt and uncle donated the founding collection of ~1,000 quilts.
- Lincoln is stuffed to the gills with excellent, independent bookstores. Some of our favorites include A Novel Idea, Indigo Bridge, and Bluestem Books (plus Trade-a-Tape Comics next door!)
- Morrill Hall – Visit "Archie", the largest Columbian mammoth fossil in the world at Nebraska's natural history museum.
- Sunken Gardens – A beautiful, free public garden in the heart of Lincoln.
- Licorice International – A truly amazing selection of licorice from around the world.
- Lincoln Children's Zoo – Like the name says, great for kids. If you need a zoo consistently ranked top 5 in the world, drive to the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha.
Restaurants
- The Coffee House – Where it all started! John and Misha met here by chance one cold November and we have drunk gallons of coffee here since. Don't miss their Cromelettes for breakfast!
- Daffodil – A little, out-of-the-way Persian restaurant is one of the best restaurants in Lincoln. Narges makes her food with love and treats everyone like family.
- Hub Cafe – Farm-to-table cafe for breakfast/lunch. Misha is especially fond of brunch on their patio.
- Honest Abe's – Burgers, fries, and shakes with a creative twist.
- The Oven – Indian and Bhutanese food, plus a wine cellar downstairs.
- Single Barrel – Nebraska is the Beef State and we'd be remiss not to put a steakhouse on this list. If you can't get an invite to a backyard barbeque from someone in the beef industry, this is a good option. They've also got a lengthy whisky list.
Where?
Yes, Wyuka Stables is in a cemetery. This renovated event space has a courtyard for our COVID-cautious guests and an indoor space in case of bad weather. You may have been inside if you've ever seen the Flatwater Shakespeare Company perform there.
The entrance is on O Street, at about 37th. There are two parking lots on the way back toward the stables.
Wyuka Stables, 3600 O Street, can be found on Google Maps or on Open Street Map.
Dress Code?
We want you to be comfortable at our love party. This is a casual affair – dress how you would want to look at a garden party with twinkly lights. A few factors to keep in mind: Wyuka Stables is an indoor/outdoor space. Summer weather in Nebraska, could be anything. We encourage you to bring your dancin' shoes!
Gifts?
Thank you so much for your generosity, but we prefer our guests not to bring gifts. If you would like to get us something, we would love it if you contributed to our honeymoon fund or donated in our name to the Friendship Home or another charity that makes the world a better place.
